Buying a house or flat or any type of residence is a major purchase and can be a real headache. So many people buy after a cursory view of less than an hour and then after they move in the problems come to light. Its illogical a large majority of people do it. For a reasonable fee, generally less than your legal charges to your solicitor or substantially less than the fees you pay the estate agent to see you can have a chartered surveyor inspect the property and give you a report on condition, maintenance aspects and value. And thrown in free, is peace of mind.
A survey should not be confused with a mortgage valuation report. The mortgage valuation will give your mortgage lender assurance for its loan. It will not give you an assessment of the condition of the property, or advice about repairs and maintenance.
